John E. “Bubby” Flaherty, Jr.

Flaherty, John E. Jr. “Bubby” Ret. Massachusetts State Police, Sergeant of Hyannis, formerly of South Boston died July 10, 2015.

Beloved father of Theresa Jurczuk of Dennisport,  Kathleen Upham and her husband Daniel of Duxbury and James Flaherty  and his wife Stephanie of Pembroke. Son of the late John E. and Anna Flaherty. Brother of Anna Flaherty of South Boston, Frances Sloan of Maine, Paul Flaherty of Medford, Mary Devlin of Foxboro, Kathy Vierbickas of South Boston, Column Flaherty of Quincy, James Flaherty of Quincy and the late Kevin and Regina Flaherty.   Papa of Jimmy, Emily, Gretchen, Donna, Michael, Brian, Caitlin and Lauren.  Great Papa to Cash, Wolfe and Maxwell.

John was born, raised and educated in South Boston. He was a dedicated Massachusetts State Police Sergeant retiring in 1982 and then continuing his dedication to Tufts University as Police Sergeant for 10 more years.  He was devoted to caring and helping others and mentoring those who were in need. John was a member of the Retired Troopers Association. Most importantly John enjoyed his family who were the cornerstone of his life, especially his grandchildren.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15am Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
