John Richard Cadigan, Age 62, of Hamilton, passed away on June 30. John was in the midst of a typical favorite Sunday, a morning with good friends, an afternoon cooking up crab legs, listening to ska and hanging out with his three faithful dogs, all interrupted by a tragic fall.
The son of Ruth and Joseph Walter Cadigan; husband of his beloved late wife, Stori Stockwell Cadigan; and father of his daughter, Samantha Cadigan; John was born in Proctor, VT and raised in Hingham, MA.
His classmates at Hingham High, Class of '79, many of whom remained lifelong friends, remember him as a versatile athlete (exceptional baseball player!) and the source of plenty of laughs and much mischief. He's most fondly remembered as a sensitive soul, caring deeply for those around him. John graduated from St. Michael's College in 1984 and began a long, successful career in financial advising and wealth management in the Greater Boston Area. John's time in Boston finance led to meeting his best friend and love of his life, Stori Stockwell Cadigan. They married and moved to Hamilton, where the beautiful outdoors, wide range of friends new and old and tightly knit neighborhood provided the perfect environment for raising their daughter, Samantha Cadigan. John's connection to his North Shore community served him well. He had a decades-long network of dedicated, funny and active friends that supported him tirelessly after the unexpected death of his wife in 2022.
John also found solace in nature, taking walks on Sagamore Hill and along Crane's beach, armed with his birding book and binoculars. He was often afoot on the tennis and paddle courts and golf course, as he was a member of Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea. John's most memorable traits: his determination, his kindness to those that had the privilege of working with him, his lifelong wonderful grin, his enthusiasm for music (daughter, Sam, grew up to the killer tunes of The Strokes, The Specials, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen) and his all-star dinner party talents. Anyone lucky enough to know John was more than likely familiar with his Coquille St. Jacques. He will be deeply, sorely missed.
John is survived by his daughter, Samantha of Oakland, CA; sisters, Mary Cadigan Jones (Philip) of Plymouth, MA, Elizabeth Cadigan of Plymouth, MA, Ellen Mazel (Charlie) of Bedford, MA; brother, Joseph Cadigan (Theresa) of Cohasset, MA; and a wide circle of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear, dear friends.
Two separate Memorials will be held to remember and celebrate John's legacy. On July 31, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, there will be a Visitation and story sharing at Campbell Funeral Home, in BEVERLY, MA. On August 1, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, there will be a Visitation and story sharing memorial at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, in HINGHAM, MA. In lieu of flowers, we ask that people donate to The Wenham Museum and/or Trustees of Reservations, two organizations very important to John.
