Cummins, John “Tony” of Abington, died unexpectedly on December 23, 2022. He was 62.  He was the beloved husband of Eileen (Monahan) Cummins, loving father of Conor, Dennis and Molly.

Tony was born in Ireland to the late John & Rita (Madden) Cummins.  Anthony as he is known in Ireland was the oldest of eight siblings.  He graduated from Coláiste Chríost Rí, the same secondary school as the Taoiseach Micheál Martin.  He immigrated to the United States in 1986 to train greyhound racing dogs.  He first settled in Miami and then moved up to Boston.  In 1992 he met Eileen, in 1993 they were married. He worked with the greyhound dogs in Boston at Wonderland Race Park, and then Raynham-Taunton Park.  Tony, with the help of his father-in-law Leo Monahan, became a proud member of Local 103 IBEW in 2000.  Tony was working with J&M Brown, a company he loved working for with great guys on the team.

Family was Tony’s focus.  From the moment he woke in the morning until the moment he fell asleep at night his main concern was Eileen and the kids.  He was Eileen’s best friend and they had planned to spend many years in retirement traveling and visiting places around the globe together.  He was a wonderful husband, always finding the perfect card for birthdays and anniversaries, and letting Eileen win just about every argument they ever had.  He was a fierce defender and protector of his family.  He was a wonderful son-in-law to Eileen’s parents.  He was the rock the family needed when Eileen’s dad passed away in 2010. Tony attended and cheered for his three kids at their basketball, baseball, football, soccer, cross-country, and golf events.  He loved watching the kids’ games.  He enjoyed watching all major sports with the family, the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics, he was a true Boston fan.  One of the summer highlights every year would be heading up to Saratoga for racing days.  We had many wonderful times with Tony and those memories will be cherished forever.

As the kids have grown he was so proud to see them achieve goals he hoped and dreamed they would.  He was especially excited to see Molly graduate from Syracuse this coming spring, Dennis complete his apprenticeship at Local 103, IBEW, and watch Conor continue his career as an attorney.  He was so happy.

Tony had a keen interest in greyhound and thoroughbred horse racing.  He had friends all over the world whom he would call and chat about breedings and races and wins and losses.  His latest venture was breeding his brood-mare Tangaroo with turf-sire English Channel.  He traveled to Kentucky with his friends from Ireland John O’Herlihy and Noel Barret in October and were delighted with the sale of his filly Molly-Margaret.

Tony is survived by his wife and children, as well as his brothers and sisters.  Dolores & Jon Cahill of Douglas-Ireland, Pat & Sandra Cummins of Havertown-PA, Conor & Felicia Cummins of Pottstown-PA, Katherina & Gordon Clifton of Edinburgh-Scotland, Marguerite & Ahmed Tageldeen of Cairo-Egypt, Nuala & Nathaniel Eckstrom of Sydney-Australia, and Fiona & Gary Browne of Monkstown-Ireland.  As well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
