John A. “Al” Mcguirk

John A. “Al” McGuirk of Quincy, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2014.

Al was born on March 28, 1938 to the late Russel and Lidia McGuirk.  He grew up in Boston with his 9 brothers and sisters.

Al served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was proud of his service to his country. He worked as a police officer and detective for the Town of Holbrook and later became a project manager for the construction department of the MBTA. Al was an extremely handy man who enjoyed fixing things around the house as well as helping others with projects of all kinds.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his expertise with family and friends. Al enjoyed traveling and loved to share stories about his experiences, especially trips to Ireland where he traced his family heritage and most recently to Alaska where he learned to dog sled.

Al’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Al is survived by his beloved wife Mary (DiLillo) McGuirk of Quincy, son Sean McGuirk and his wife Lisa of Rockland, step-son Christopher Rossi and his wife Stephanie of Stamford, CT, step-daughters Robyn DePalma and her husband Anthony of Rockland and Meredith Brooks and her husband Richard of Braintree, grandchildren Sean McGuirk, Michael McGuirk, Jack DePalma, Danielle DePalma, Noah Brooks, Katie Brooks, Jordan Rossi, Ryan Brooks and Evan Rossi. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A private service is planned.
