Joan Ruane

Ruane, Joan I. (Ahern) of Quincy, died July 11, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

 Joan grew up in Neponset. She married and moved to Quincy where she raised her family. In her earlier years, she worked as the functions coordinator at the Holiday Inn in Randolph then adding to that she took a full time position at State Street Bank, where she continued working for many years. After her retirement Joan spent many hours volunteering with various organizations with the State Street Community Service Group. She could always be found on the field or at the rink of her grandchildrens sporting events, she was their biggest fan.  She enjoyed bowling, traveling and was always ready for the challenge of the game Scrabble, but the essence of her life was her family, they were the foundation of all that was truly important to her.  She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who brought grace and strength to the lives she touched, so characteristically of the way she lived her life. She will sadly missed by all those who were blessed to have known her

 The beloved wife of the late John F. Ruane. Loving mother of Joanne Ruane-Seltzer and her husband Harold Seltzer, Jr.  of Canton and Janice Sheehan and her husband Jeffrey of Quincy.  Joan leaves her twin brother John C. Ahern of Billerica, she  is also the sister of Robert J. Ahern and Carol M. Everard both of Whitman and the late Francis J. Ahern. Cherished Grandma of Jonathan, Mary Kate and Julianne. Joan had a special bond with her sister – in – law Eileen Ruane of West Yarmouth.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at Monday at 10:45am prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 11:30 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Joan may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
