Joan Margaret Murray

Murray, Joan Margaret (Morgan) of Braintree, passed away on February 18, 2024. She was 90.

Joan was the oldest of two daughters, born in 1933, to William and Margaret (Donohue) Morgan. Joan grew up in Mattapan and attended parochial schools. She graduated from Saint Gregory’s High School in 1950 and went on to the Teachers’ College of Boston, graduating  in 1954.  She taught third grade in Brockton and later in Dedham while completing her master’s degree in education from Boston College.  She married Robert Leo Murray, the love of her life, in 1958 and raised six children in Braintree.

Joan was dedicated to her family and spent many years caring for and advocating for her youngest son David, who had Downs Syndrome. Happily married for 66 years, she was tireless in her love for her husband and devoted many of her later years caring for him. She prioritized family over all else and relished family gatherings – holidays, birthdays, weddings, and backyard cookouts. Joan had an appreciation for art and drove to her art classes on Cape Cod for many years.  She left a solid collection of paintings for her children and grandchildren.  Joan was an avid reader and often had several books going at once. She enjoyed knitting and later went on to crochet, always working on a baby blanket or crochet project for someone. Joan was a devout Catholic with an unshakeable faith in God.

Loving wife to Robert Leo Murray. Cherished mother to Robert G. Murray of Milton, Frederick J. Murray and his wife Debra of Easton, Mark W. Murray and his wife Maureen of Walpole, Ellen M. Jones and her husband Stuart of Duxbury, Brian P. Murray and his wife Susan of Scituate, and the late David F. Murray. Nana to Olivia, Donovan, Ryan, Alexa, Nolan, Colin, Bridget, Aidan, Lila, Freddie, Chloe, Serena, Matthew, Corey, and David. Great grandmother to Sadie and Miles. Sister to the late Rita Regan.
