Joan M. (Stidstone) Frolick

Joan Marie (Stidstone) Frolick of Athol, formerly of Hingham died December 14, 2019.  The beloved wife of 45 years to James C. Frolick of Athol. Loving mother of Joseph Frolick and his wife Laura of TX. Stepmother of Tanya Frolick of TX and Rory James Frolick and his wife Terri of Washington.  Beloved daughter of the late Wilfred “Spud” and Margaret Stidstone of Hingham. Cherished sister of Robert L. Stidstone and his wife Heather of FL, Richard F. Stidstone and his wife Nancy of Middleboro, Mark S Stidstone and his wife Cherry of AL, Philip G. Stidstone of RI, Mary Ann Seamon and her husband Walter of Marshfield, Janet L. Winward and her husband Glenn of Sterling, Thomas C. Stidstone and his wife Tina of Hanson and the late Charles E. Stidstone. Joan is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

During her youth, Joan was heavily involved in athletics: she played baseball, softball, and basketball, and loved hockey. She played goalie for her big brother’s pond hockey group playing without pads, on figure skates and using a left handed baseball glove. She was tougher than most of the boys.

After graduating from Hingham High School, she joined the U.S. Army. She loved her time and training while quickly rising through the ranks from Private to SP4 in less than 18 months. At her last duty station at Fort Carson, Colorado, she met her future husband and soulmate, Jim, who was also a member of the U.S.Army. They wed in Amarillo,TX.  After two years in Amarillo, they welcomed their son Joseph and then were immediately sent to Germany for a 3 year tour. In Europe they traveled extensively and particularly loved Switzerland.

After Jim’s retirement, Joan and Jim traveled together all over the U.S. before settling in Athol, MA.

Joan was a devout Boston sports fan. No matter where she resided, it was always a necessity to be able to pick up on cable or dish, whichever Boston team was currently playing.

Joan had a special love for her “fur babies” – Lady, Dudley and Shelly.

Joan was a devoted wife and mother and an amazing sister and friend. She will be missed by everyone who’s lives she touched.
