Joan A. Carroll

Joan A. Carroll, a longtime resident of Quincy and recently Braintree, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024.

She was born in Boston to Katherine (Higgins) and William G. Bryant and raised in South Boston. In her late teens she moved to the Merrymount neighborhood of Quincy. She graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy. Joan went on to pursue her passion for art and fashion at the Jackson von Ladau school for fashion and design. Her knowledge, training and zest for the industry landed her a career in fashion and advertising with Jordan Marsh and Sears Roebuck.

Joan married William F. Carroll, who also grew up in South Boston. They settled in the Merrymount section of Quincy and started a family, having three children. In the early 1980’s, Joan returned to the workforce and earned a position with the MA State Lottery. She worked there for 25 years before retiring.

In her spare time, Joan enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as traveling. Joan enjoyed the arts and fashion and was often called upon by Our Lady of Good Counsel Sodality, Archbishop Williams Women’s Guild and various other organizations to chair their fashion shows.

In addition to her creative pursuits, Joan’s deep Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devout member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church where she found comfort and strength in her relationship with God. Joan’s spirituality was reflected in her kindness, compassion, and the love she freely gave to her family, friends, and all those she encountered.

Beloved wife of 34 years to the late William F. Carroll. Devoted mother to Bill Carroll and his wife Kathleen of Duxbury, Beverly Wiedemann and her husband Ted of Marshfield and Pamela Gold of Walpole. Loving sister to the late William Bryant, Clare Baldwin, and Mark Bryant. Adoring grandmother to Elizabeth, William and Brendan Carroll, Theodore and Eric Wiedemann, and Gregory William Gold. Also survived by eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Wednesday 12/18/2024, from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Immediately following the visitation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home, prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Quincy on Wednesday at 11 AM.
