Joan A. Garrity

Garrity, Joan A. (Keddy) of Hingham, died June 25, 2016.

Joan was a resident of Hingham for 51 years and enjoyed her harbor view from the top of Otis Hill.  She had a love of the ocean and any opportunity to be on Martha’s Vineyard.  Some of Joan’s fondest memories were of her early years at her Nana and Pappy Donahue’s house on Robin Hood Street in Dorchester.  Joan prided herself on her work at New England Tel & Tel/Verizon.  She was a strong advocate for liberal causes, human rights and mental health issues.  She was a proud supporter of Hillary Clinton and looked forward to casting her vote for HRC this coming election (#SheIsWithHer).  Joan was a woman with an incredible green thumb and could make anything grow.  She had a sharp wit and an exuberant sense of humor.  She would not have considered living anywhere else in the world than within the orbit of her beloved Boston.  Her proudest achievements in life were being a wife, mother and Nana.  Joan was a vivacious soul, a force of nature and will never be forgotten.

Beloved wife of 58 years to Paul J. Garrity, Esq of Hingham.  Loving mother of Dr. Michael J. Garrity and his wife Linda of Charlestown; Paul J. Garrity, Esq and his wife Susan of Londonderry, NH; Kathleen G. Okolita and her husband Michael of Allston; Jane E. King and her husband Robert of LA; John C. Garrity and his partner Ann Marie Di Bella of Somerville; Mary E. Garrity and her son Liam G. Smith of Essex Jct, VT; Anne T. Garrity of Medford; and Susan D. Zouein and her husband Roger of Glen Ridge, NJ.  Cherished Nana of her 17 grandchildren:  Kate, Jack, Aidan, Tim, Steve, Geoff, Colie, Pat, Danny, Georgia, Hannah, Ryan, Adam, Sean, Liam, Julia and Jonathan.  Devoted daughter of the late Robert E. and Anne T. Keddy.  Elder sister of Thomas Keddy and his wife Barbara of MA/NH and Robert Keddy and his wife Marie of Quincy.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
