Joachim-Ingo "Ski" Borowski

Chief of Police; Korean War Veteran; Patriot

MGySgt and Chief Joachim-Ingo “Ski” Borowski, 89, of Hingham died on September 23rd, 2024.

He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Elizabeth “Betty” (Berry) Borowski.

In addition to his wife, his survivors include three children, Karen McCarthy and her husband, Richard, of Plymouth, Richard Borowski of Hingham, and Kevin Borowski and his wife, Judi, of Warwick, Rhode Island. He was the loving grandfather of Sean McCarthy and brother of Sonja Borowski and Walburga Kahne, both of Berlin, Germany. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews in Massachusetts and Germany. 

Mr. Borowksi was born in Berlin, Germany, on September 5th, 1935, the son of Max and Clara Borowski. After the end of World War II, Mr. Borowski immigrated to the United States, joining the Marines during the Korean War, where not only would he serve bravely but be naturalized as a U.S. citizen in Seoul, South Korea, in 1952. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Borowski would end up settling in Massachusetts. He was a Marine Reservist at South Weymouth Naval Air Station and attained the coveted positions as "Master Gunnery Sergeant" and "Base Sergeant Major". He joined the Hingham Police Department, working his way up through the ranks from patrolman, to Sergeant, to Lieutenant, and then Chief. Mr. Borowski became Chief in 1983 and would serve until his retirement in 2000. After his retirement, Mr. Borowski would continue to serve his fellow veterans with the ESGR for the rest of his life. His commitment to his family, community, and nation was beyond palpable and is a testament to the American spirit that guided him throughout his entire life.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. 

A gathering will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, 9-10:30 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home.

Committal prayers and Marines Military Honors will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 12:30 PM at The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
