Jerome V. “Jerry” McDonald of Weymouth, died unexpectedly November 27, 2013 at the age of 61. Jerry was the son of the late John E. and Rose C. (Beary) McDonald of Weymouth.
He was a graduate of Weymouth High School in 1971 and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1975. For many years he was employed by Simpson Lumber Supply, a large and successful timber company in Los Angeles County, California. With his degree in wood technology he became one of the top sales representatives and district manager at Simpson.
As a youth, he set a record for the one mile swim at a Boy Scout camp in New Hampshire which has never been beaten. He spent many summers as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for the Town of Weymouth. He taught a blind child to swim and with his guidance she went on to win many swimming competitions, to the great satisfaction of those involved.
His greatest joy was spending time with his many friends and family. He will be remembered as a loving and caring person with a good natured spirit and wonderful sense of humor. Loving father of Casandra R. Sullivan (Jeff) of Weymouth and Martin D. McDonald (Julie) of Norton, Christine J. McDonald of Brockton and Brenda A. McDonald of Weymouth. Beloved brother of R. Patricia O’Grady (John) of Hingham, Anne Marie McDonald, Jeanette Rose-Gutshall, Christine Bronchuk, Daniel McDonald, Bernard McDonald all of Weymouth, John McDonald (Susan) of Melrose, Elizabeth Pare (James) of Whitman. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews and godchildren. Good friend of the late Joseph Contrino and his wife Maureen.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 7th at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham
