O’Connell, Jeremiah Joseph (Joe), age 95, of Belmont, NH formerly of Quincy, passed away on January 21, 2016 at Laconia Rehabilitation Center, after a period of declining health.
Joe was born in Boston, MA to Margaret (Casey) O’Connell and Jeremiah Joseph O’Connell, Sr. He lived most of his life in Quincy, MA and later moved to New Hampshire from July 2014 until present. Joe served his country in the United States Army overseas during World War II. Upon his return he worked for Hathaway’s Bread Company and later for Hood Milk Company where he delivered milk door to door. Joe spent the last of his working years before retirement as an employee of the Quincy School Department at North Quincy High School. Joe was known for his many repeated stories, joke telling, teasing and grand sense of humor. Joe had a giving spirit and generous nature.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Gertrude (Hughes) O’Connell, his parents and his sister Margaret McIsaac. Joe is survived by his two sons, Paul and Caryn O’Connell of Belmont, NH, Kevin and Ester O’Connell of Marshfield, MA, one brother William (Bill) O’Connell of Dorchester, MA, also 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 12:00 – 3:00 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton at 10:30 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers, Joe has requested that you make a donation to your local veteran’s home.
