Jeremiah F. Mulcahy

Mulcahy, Jeremiah F. “Jerry” of Quincy, died March 4, 2017.

Born July 6, 1952 in South Boston to Jeremiah and Joan (Tracey) Mulcahy. He moved to Quincy when he was 2 years old and attended Quincy Public Schools and graduated from North Quincy High School in 1970. Jerry was an accomplished athlete, captain of the football and gymnastics team. He attended Bridgton Academy where he played football and lacrosse. Jerry then went to Boston University and graduated in 1975 with a physical therapy degree. His first job as a physical therapist was at Glover Memorial Hospital. In 1978 he started Chest Physical Therapy Services with colleagues John and Ann Marie Nadeau as a home healthcare business dedicated to the physical therapy needs of the cystic fibrosis community. In his youth he spent summers recreating in Quincy Bay. He was an expert boater and sailor and enjoyed cruising in the Virgin Islands where he was a bareboat charter captain. Jerry was also an avid ocean and ice fisherman. He was a skilled skier and loved ski weekends with his family. He was a casual bowler and golfer with a ‘hole in one’ at the Michaela McCloskey Ternes Memorial Golf Tournament. He was inducted into the NQHS Football Hall of Fame in 2011 and was a former member of the Squantum Yacht Club. Jerry cherished his house on the Bass River and loved all things Cape Cod, especially Cape Cod oysters and over sand excursions on Nauset Beach. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida on Captiva Island, and was a veteran Christmas stroller. Most of all Jerry loved his family, especially being “Grampy” to his beloved grandchildren. The captain has left the ship and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Beloved husband of Denise Mulcahy of Quincy. Devoted father of Cara Valente and her husband Dan of Needham, Jeremiah Mulcahy and his wife Laura of Hanover, and Brendan Mulcahy and his wife Polly of Quincy. Loving brother of Richard Mulcahy and his wife Bonnie of Hanover, Donna Mock and her husband Kevin of Quincy and brother in law of Elaine Souza and her husband William of Newport, RI, Stephen Runge of Quincy, and Lesley Pollara and her husband Ron of Hingham. Cherished “Grampy” of Molly, Nicholas, Emily, Sean, and one on the way. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
