Jeanne Alice (Davis) Mcgrory

Jeanne passed away on February 10th surrounded by her loving family after a long and beautiful life.

Jeanne was born on March 21, 1928 in Dorchester and as a young girl her family moved to South Weymouth where she met the love of her life, John Robert “Bobby” McGrory.  There are many great stories about the fun they had before Bobby went into the war.  Upon his return, they began their life together, raised five children and enjoyed almost 70 years of marriage… a true love story.

Jeanne created a home on Chauncy Street that was always a gathering place for both young and old.  She was the quintessential home maker; an accomplished seamstress, knitter and cook.  Jeanne shared all these gifts with those she loved.  In addition to these interests and talents, Jeanne had a deep passion for education and ensured that all five children earned a college degree, one of her proudest achievements.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her loving husband Bobby, her cherished daughter Kathleen, her dear sister Pat Capelle and her brother Jim Davis. She is survived by four children;  Jack McGrory and his wife Una of San Diego, Patty Gilligan and her husband Kevin of Minneapolis, Meg Kelleher and her husband Patrick from Marshfield and Nancy Altimonte and her husband Paul from Pembroke.  Jeanne has 14 loving grandchildren; Allyson, Sarah, Meghan, Ryan, Jenny, Lauren, Katie, Kyle, Timmy, Patrick, Chris, Haleigh, Lily and Davis.  She also welcomed 19 beautiful great grandchildren, with one on the way.  Jeanne is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Jeanne had a warmth, grace and style about her that drew people to her.  Jeanne’s greatest legacy is the love she gave and the love she received.

The McGrory family is forever grateful to the community of women who cared for Jeanne (Team Jeanne), the amazing support of the Norwell VNA Hospice and her friends at the Village of Proprietor’s Green where Jeanne spent the last seven years of her life.
