Jean M. (Tierney) Whelan, a beloved mother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born on February 14th, 1959, Jean was a loving wife to Kevin Whelan Sr., and spent her life as a devoted mother. Jean was born in Boston, grew up in Milton, and most recently lived in Plymouth. She was born to Hon. William Tierney of Boston and Mary C. Maguire of Brockton. She attended Fontbonne Academy, and she was a member of St. Agatha’s Church. Jean was a woman of God, who believed deeply in values such as loyalty and strength of spirit. She was known for her unwavering love and support, and her children were her greatest joy. Jean will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: she was mother to Lillian and her husband Arjun (Quincy), William (Plymouth), Daniel (Plymouth), and Mary Rose (Boston), and she was step-mother to Kevin and his wife Shelly (Plaistow, NH), Matthew and his wife Erica (Peabody), and Eric and his wife Nicole (Peabody). She is survived by her siblings Kathleen Tierney (Rockland), Thomas Tierney (Mendon), William Tierney Jr. (Milton), and James Tierney (Eastham). She is also survived by 8 cherished grandchildren.
Jean had a passion for life and a zest for adventure. She loved traveling and trying new foods. Jean deeply valued spending time with her family, watching Boston sports with her husband, gardening, swimming, practicing yoga, and spending time in Plymouth. She also loved watching Food Network and HGTV. Her favorite stories to tell were about her family. Jean will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visiting hours on Wednesday, October 16th from 4pm-8pm at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 17th at 10:30am at St. Agatha’s Church in Milton. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
