Jean M. (Smith) Walsh

Walsh, Jean M. (Smith) of Hull, died on Saturday, December 26, 2009. Cherished wife of the late Coleman F. Walsh Sr. of Hull. Devoted mother of Coleman F. Walsh, Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Norwell, Patrick J. Walsh and his wife Carol of Stoneham, Anne M. Walsh of Hull, James A. Walsh and his fiancé Debbie Karnafel of Randolph and the late Mark D. Walsh. Loving sister of Frances Loughran of Stoughton, formerly of Milton and Douglas Smith and his wife Ginnie of Scituate. Loving grandmother of Meghan Hough of Brockton, Christina Walsh of Brighton, Jennifer, Mark, and Amy Walsh of Hull, and Mikaela Walsh of Stoneham. Jean is lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean was born in Toronto, Canada and raised in Dorchester. After graduating high school in 1939, she received a scholarship to the Boston University School of Arts. During WWII, she served in the British ATS (Army Territorial Service) in an administrative role and was stationed in Slough, England. She was a proud member of the Telephone Company Pioneers, Sherwin Chapter, Boston Life Club where she served as Past President. Her greatest gift was in being a mother, but she was also an accomplished artist and musician. She was organist for over 25 years at St. Paul’s Church in Hingham, and St. Mary’s and St. Ann’s Churches in Hull. Her many talents included gardening, embroidery, rug braiding and painting. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Tuesday 3 – 7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10:00 AM. Burial in Hull Village Cemetery, Hull.
