Jean C. Hickey

Jean C. (Carroll) Hickey of Hingham, died October 1, 2022, she was 92. The beloved wife of the late Francis W. Hickey. Cherished mother of Francis J. Hickey and his wife Marie of New Jersey, David J. Hickey and his wife Dolores of New York, Carol J. Lipsett and her husband Jack of Hingham and the late Kenneth J. Hickey. Sister of Lorraine Legg of FL, Patricia Carlino of Braintree and the late Blanche King, Cynthia Leahy and Kathleen Carroll. Cherished Nana to Jill, Christopher, Kenneth, Adriane, Patrick, Scott, Sean, Megan, and Kristina. Jean is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Jean was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmother. As the oldest of 6 girls, she became a caring and loving caretaker. First for her sisters, then her own children and later in life for her husband and her mother.

Jean was a wonderful baker and cook and there was always something delicious cooking in her oven. It could have been molasses cookies, banana bread, coffee cake or her spaghetti sauce. Jean’s home was a great place to stop by at dinner time as there was always room for another plate at her table. Jean was a dedicated worker. She held many jobs in her long life including Bethlehem Steel,  Shop and Save Market, and General Dynamics. Jean was very proud of her last job at Grass Instruments. At Grass Instruments she worked with Astronauts, scientists and Fellows from around the world. She retired from there at 74 years old.

Jean loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always knew what each one was interested in, could tell you what colleges they went to and would make a point of making conversation with each one. To say Jean was proud of her family is an understatement. Our family and friends have been so lucky to have had her in our lives for so long.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, 147 North St. Hingham on Thursday Oct. 6 at 10 AM.

Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
