Jay Sloan

Mr. Jay Sloan of Rockland passed away suddenly on October 20, 2023. He was 64 years young.

Jay has always been the kindest and sweetest man to everyone in his life. His exterior may have looked intimidating but inside he was the most gentle and kind soul. He was known by everyone as the guy always smiling and joking around.

Jay’s love of Boston sports was apparent in everything he did.He always left the house in either Bruins, Patriots, Celtics or Red Sox attire. He tailgated with Patriots fans and cheered the Bruins on as a season ticket holder for years. Jay loved hockey and was such a loyal dad to his son Derek driving to early morning and late night hockey practices and games. Jay was his number 1 fan. Jay joined an “old man’s” league and loved every minute of it. Jay was an avid golfer and loved his time spent with the guys from the courses he belonged to in Scituate and North Hill. Being a bit of a gambler, the little side bets they would make on their matches was as important to him as winning an over/under bet on a Patriots’ game.

Jay’s love for his kids was so deep.He boasted to everyone about them throughout their lives, always showing pictures to anyone that would look and listen. He supported and loved Hunter as he became the wonderful, creative, determined guy he is today. Jay marveled at his strength and determination. They shared a love of space and all its wonder with conversations about any upcoming scientific discoveries or sightings in the sky. Derek and Hunter will miss their dad so very much.

Friends were also so important to Jay. He connected in so many ways with them over the years. The love of fun, watching, playing or talking about sports connected them deeply.

Jay’s love of his parents, brothers and sister, cousins, uncles and aunts was obvious with the stories of vacations, summers, family events and living in Brockton on Boundary St. Jay loved all the vacations with the Walsh side of our family, before kids as well. Jay and Deb loved each other for almost 5 decades and shared in a lifetime of love, fun and crazy adventures, friendship, ups and downs and everything in between as family does, for what seems like forever. I’ll love you and miss you forever.
