Jane Marie Keating-Latus
April 17, 1937 – April 30, 2022
(East Weymouth) – Jane Keating-Latus passed away peacefully in her home, April 30, surrounded by family members. She was 85. Jane is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Michael Boland Latus, of East Weymouth; daughter Kathleen Marie Latus, of Poway, Calif.; and grandsons Kerrick Noel Ryan and Keagan Michael Latus.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Francis Keating and Amelia Marie (Mello) Keating. Her only sibling, Anne M. Keating, died in 2018. A second-generation immigrant, Jane was a dual citizen of the United States and Ireland.
Originally from Lowell Mass., Jane grew up in the South End of Boston and attended Cathedral High School, where she swam, skied and played on the school’s women’s basketball team. In 1958, she graduated from Boston’s Emmanuel College with a degree in teaching and taught English and history at Foxboro High School. Jane wed her husband, Michael, in 1960 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Boston. Her only child, Kathleen, was born while Michael was stationed at the U.S. Air Force Base near Rosières-en-Haye, France. In 1978, Jane received her master’s degree in library science from Simmons College. She worked her way up to become head librarian at Boston City Hospital Nursing School and later worked for Kluwer Academic Publishers as assistant to the publisher. She ultimately became a senior tax professional for H&R Block and worked in that capacity until she retired in 2018.
“Little Janie,” as she was known in grammar school because of her diminutive stature, was always the life of the party. She was gregarious, made friends easily, and was adored by all who knew her. She lit up every room with her big, brown eyes, long eyelashes and movie star smile.
Jane had a love for the theater and dramatic arts. She enjoyed singing and performing. She was involved in the local camera club and was active in city and state politics. Jane stayed active planning activities and reunions with her fellow alumni from the Cathedral High class of 1954.
