Jane L. Chapman

HINGHAM – Jane Lothrop Chapman, 77, a resident at Continuing Care at Linden Ponds in Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. 

Jane was born in 1937 to Dr. Eaton Shaw & Alice (Sweetser) Lothrop of Portland, ME and Gray, ME.  She was raised in Cape Elizabeth, ME where she graduated as valedictorian of her class.  After high school, Jane attended Smith College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1959.  Shortly after college, she was married and commenced her successful career raising four children, principally in Cohasset, MA, where the family resided for 36 years.

In addition to her love of family, Jane maintained ardent interests in reading, walking, traveling, animals, tennis, gardening and sewing.  Jane was a sweet and graceful woman who possessed a subtle, yet particularly quick wit.  She personified “treat others the way you want to be treated” with a feisty zest for family, friends and life in general.  Jane was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and will be dearly missed. 

During her long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, Jane was cared for with great compassion by the entire staff at Continuing Care at Linden Ponds.  The family is deeply appreciative of the staff’s dedicated and empathetic service to Jane and the family.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Peter A. Chapman of Hingham, and their four children, Linda C.  Bastarache and her husband Paul of Cohasset, Peter A. Chapman, Jr. and his wife Katherine of East Schodack, NY, David W. Chapman and his wife Linda and their daughter, Abigail of Norwell and Jennifer C. Kuser and her husband Eric and their son, Ryan and daughter Lindsay of Hingham.

At the request of the family, all funeral arrangements and burial will be private.
