Jane Farrell Smith

Smith, Jane Farrell of Squantum, October 19, 2006. Beloved wife of Frederick D. “Rick” Smith, Jr. of Squantum. Loving mother of Spencer Smith of Squantum. Daughter of Gloria (Smith) of Springfield and the late John A. Farrell. Sister of Gale Flood of Longmeadow and Michael Farrell of Wilbraham. Aunt of Dianna, Kevin and Sean Farrell, all of Wilbraham. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Monday at 8 PM. Visiting hours will be prior to the service from 4- 8 PM. Burial will be private. The love of Jane’s life and her most important role was being a mother to her son Spencer. Jane loved being around children which led her to her career as an elementary school teacher. Mrs. Farrell Smith has been a teacher for the past twenty years. She was currently the second grade teacher at the Bernazzani School in Quincy. Her family commented on how long it took Jane to go shopping because she was always crossing paths with current and former students and their families. Jane was also the representative for her school in the Quincy Education Association. She also helped to coordinate the Daffodil Days at school to benefit the American Cancer Society. Jane was a classically trained ballerina and taught both ballet and jazz. Music was an important part of her life; she loved Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatra and mostly Rock & Roll. She was very creative and enjoyed making jewelry and writing inspirational cards. She was so excited to see the Red Sox win the World Series and was fortunate to attend one of the games in Fenway Park. Jane’s family describes her as outgoing, charismatic, compassionate and a great friend, especially to her students. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jane may be made to the Jane Farrell Smith Scholarship Fund, c/o Colonial Federal Savings Bank, 15 Beach Street, Quincy MA 02170.
