Jane Comerford

Jane (Sharp) Comerford of Hingham, died on Palm, Sunday, April 13, 2025, at home with her daughters by her side.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Comerford of Hingham in 2007, Jane was loving mother to Kathleen and Molly of Hingham and Patrick, of Austin, Texas. She was the beloved grandmother to Phoebe and Declan Comerford of Austin, Texas.Devoted sister to Charles A “Bop” Sharp( Kay), Cousin Patricia Sharp Bulger of Orchard Park, NY, she also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Born March 11, 1930 to Charles A. & Mabel (Walt) Sharp(a birthdate she would share with both her son and later with her granddaughter), Jane was the older sister to her brother, Robert ("Uncle Bop") who were always close.

Jane graduated from Mount Mercy Academy and went on to attend and graduate from Mercyhurst College in 1951. Jane went on to get her master’s in education from the University of Buffalo and began a career in her passion, teaching.

Marrying in 1959, Jane and Joe lived in New York, Kansas and Ohio, moving as Joe's career dictated, before settling in Hingham in 1971 and staying for the rest of their lives. Putting her own career on hold, Jane focused on raising her children for many years, before returning to teaching in the mid 1980s at St. Paul's School in Hingham. There she would remain for over 25 years teaching 4th Grade math, English and Faith to hundreds of children.

When not teaching, Jane was wholly devoted to her family. The commitment to education was always a priority but even with the tuitions for Notre Dame Academy, BC High, Boston College, Regis College, Holy Cross College and Fordham Law School, Jane's annual retreat to Nantucket was also a family favorite.

All year long, through harsh January's and blustery March, Jane would remind us Summer wasn't far off and her favorite pastime: to sit on a porch in the summer sun and read a book in the warm breeze with a Pepsi in hand. Jane also had an extraordinary faith in both God and people, rarely missing a daily rosary or weekly Mass and keeping her youthful enthusiasm and positivity throughout her journey.
