Jane Ann Carty

Jane Ann Carty (Hanagan), a longtime resident of Quincy, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. She was 87.

She was born in Bridgewater to Genevieve (Shanley) and James Edward Hanagan and raised in Dorchester. She met her husband, Joseph R. Carty when she was 14 and he was 17, at the Franklin Park Zoo. The two were married and had 8 kids.

Jane’s life centered around her family, especially her grandchildren. She liked being home with the people she loved. She could often be found tending to the garden and sprucing up the home or reading. She loved trips to Foxwoods with Joseph and her sisters and vacations in Florida. Jane also had a special place in her heart for animals and hosted many cats, dogs and even a monkey.

She was known for her sense of humor. Between her wit, mischievous nature and expert timing, it only took a simple comment for her to send a room into an uproar of laughter. Those that loved her will miss the laughs and cherish the many memories made.

Beloved wife of 62 years to the late Joseph R. Carty. Devoted mother to Joseph Carty of Brewster, Lynne M. Lacorazza of Lakeville, Lori Mann of Dracut, John Carty of Dedham, Mary Bryant of Weymouth, Michael Carty of TN, Paul Carty of Quincy and the late Bonnie Carty. Loving sister to Mary Quish of Jamaica Plain, Connie Stinson of Farmington, ME and the late Jimmy and Jackie Hanagan. Adoring grandmother to 11 and great-grandmother to 10. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday April 13, 2025, from 2-5 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Monday April 14, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, Boston.
