James V. Ryan

Ryan, James V. of Quincy, died peacefully in his Quincy home on June 9, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in South Boston and lived in Quincy for 58 years. A proud World War II Veteran serving in the United States Navy, he received many citations and medals in his military career. After his military service James worked as an employee for the U.S. Goverment for 35 years. A former member of the North Quincy Knights of Columbus as well as the Furnace Brook Golf Club and the Montilio’s Breakfast Club. Beloved husband of 62 years to the late Mary (Cox) Ryan. Devoted father of Paul Ryan, Kathleen Deshler and her husband Robert, Nancy M. Ryan and her husband Walter Clifford all of Quincy and Patrice Whitney and her husband Dale of Marshfield. James was the proud ‘Papa” of 7 grandsons Paul, Christopher, Keith & Ryan Deshler, Kevin Sharpe, William & Mark Melillo as well as 4 great grandchildren, Casey, Kendall, PJ and Kyle Deshler. Brother of Julia A. Leasure of Scituate and the late Margaret Burns, Michael, Timothy, John and Anna Ryan. James is also survived by many loving nieces & nephews. The Ryan Family would like to extend a special thank you to his cherished caregivers, Kathy Losi, Kristen Anderson and Claire Rogers for the wonderful care they gave to James throughout his illness. James’ favorite times were spent with his family and friends golfing, traveling and meeting at Montilios. He will be remembered for his quick wit ,kind ways and his gentle nature. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:45 prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Private burial will be at a later date in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 .
