James Thomas Collins, 66, soul mate and beloved fiancé of Joan Swan, died Friday Oct. 20 at their home in Quincy, Mass. He was born March 26, 1951 in Milford, Connecticut to the late Mary Keating Collins and Thomas Francis Collins. He attended Boston University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in business administration. He was also a Certified Property Manager.
He had recently retired from the Niles Company, where he was executive vice president and director of property management and had continued his work as a consultant. He was often cited as a source in professional journals in addition to being featured as a writer.
A member of the South Boston Yacht Club, he enjoyed boating, following Boston sports teams and entertaining friends and family with his quick wit. He had worked his way through business school as a house painter and contractor and became highly skilled at both. Throughout his life he continued to offer expertise and elbow grease when family or friends were renovating. His generous heart was well known by his friends and family, to whom he opened his home warmly for visits, holidays and Red Sox games.
In addition to his fiancée, he is survived by his siblings: John C. Collins (Lynne) of Millington, N.J.; Margaret Mary Collins (Donald Varis) of Guilford, Conn.; and Colleen Shaddox (Russell) of East Haddam, Conn. He also leaves fond nieces and nephews: Meredith Collins of Manhattan; Kathryn DaSilva of Dedham, Mass.; Brian Varis of Stamford, Conn.; and Charles Shaddox of East Haddam.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday, October 25 2017, at 6PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 26 2017, at 9AM. Internment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy.
