James P. “Jim” Flynn

James P. “Jim” Flynn of Rockland passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023.  He was 85.

Jim was born in Boston to Mary T. (Dowd) and James Joseph Flynn and raised in Brookline.  After high school, Jim enlisted in the US Navy and served for 4 years.  He eventually began working as a firefighter for the Brookline Fire Department and rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring after 36 years of service. Jim was married to Maureen (Caulfield) and the two had a son, Michael. The family were long-time residents of West Roxbury.

Jim adored his family. Outside of the firehouse, he spent every moment he could with them. After years of cheering on his son at various sporting events, he spent the later years of his life doing the same for his three grandchildren. Jim loved vacationing on the coast of Maine and visiting family on Cape Cod.

Jim’s gentle presence and kind demeanor will be missed by all who knew him.

Beloved husband of 53 years to Maureen Flynn of Rockland.  Devoted father to Michael Flynn and his wife Hillary of Hingham.  Loving brother to William Flynn and his wife Anne of Bourne and the late Ann Falvey.  Cherished grandfather to James, Catherine and Margaret Flynn.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, November 5th, from 4-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. On November 6th at 10 AM, a Funeral Mass will be held in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
