James M. Wood

Wood, James M. of Braintree, died August 8, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born, raised and educated in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, graduating from Boston Technical High School. Jim was a member of the United States Air Force from 1966-1970 and served his nation in Vietnam from 1968-1969. After the war, Jim attended Northeastern University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He ultimately settled in Braintree in 1979 to raise his family. Jim worked for many years at Boston Five before venturing out on his own to start his own company, Wood’s Carpentry. Jim led Wood’s Carpentry until his retirement in 2007. He was an active member of the Wessagusset VFW Post in Weymouth, serving as commander from 2007-2011. Jim enjoyed spending time with his fellow veterans and advocating for veteran’s interests.

Beloved husband of  Linda C.(Elson) Wood. Loving father of  Christine A. Murphy and her husband, Matthew of Marshfield, and the late Joan M. Wood. Grandfather of Sean Murphy and Meghan Murphy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:30 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 9:30 AM. Burial in Braintree Cemetery.
