James M. “Shug” Manning, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at his home on October 8, 2014.
Shug was born and raised in the South End of Boston. He proudly served in the Unites States Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean Conflict. His service continued with a 36 year career as a Boston Police Officer with District 7 in East Boston. The District 7 square was later named for him. Shug enjoyed many years playing Santa at the East Boston court house. He will be remembered as a kind and giving man.
Beloved husband of the late Ruth (Boynton) Manning. Devoted father of Judith Fitzgerald of VA, Patricia Erna and her late husband Peter of East Bridgewater, John Manning and his wife Jennifer of Marshfield and James Manning and his wife Christine of Marshfield. Cherished “Poppy” of Melissa Couture, Christine Erna, Catherine Erna, Liam Manning, Paige Manning, Brooke Manning and great-granddaughter Madison Couture. Loving brother of Robert Manning of MN, Theresa Washburn of Dedham and the late Mary Berry, Dennis Joseph Manning, Jr., Edward Manning, John Manning, Catherine Sullivan, Leo C. Manning and Frank Manning. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)
Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth at 11 AM.
Burial in St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Donations in memory of James may be made to St. Francis Xavier Parish Building Fund, 234 Pleasant Street, Weymouth, MA 02190.
