McCluskey, James Michael passed into eternal rest on July 5, 2023 at the age of 87 with his loving wife at his side.
Son of Col. William J. and Mary A. (Kelly) McCluskey. Godson of former Governor James Michael Curley. Born in Boston November 5, 1935. Raised in Milton and Dorchester, he graduated from Dorchester High School in 1954, a 1957 graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He sailed with the U.S. Merchant Marine to Europe and Australia as 3rd Engineer with United States Lines. A Navy veteran, LTJG McCluskey, served as Engineering Officer aboard the Navy Icebreaker, USS ATKA (AGB-3) on both Arctic and Antarctic Expeditions. During the 1957/58 Geophysical Year. He served as guard and companion to Danish Count Eigil Kruth, a prominent archeologists, during his 1958 Archeological Expedition to Polaris Promontory in Northern Greenland. Along with his two partners, he formed MWM Co. a Manufacturers Rep / Distribution business in Quincy, MA, with sales of Filtration and other Fluid Processing equipment throughout the New England area.
He is survived by his loving wife, Georgene (Gigi) Mary (Walsh), Son James M. McCluskey Jr. and his wife Laureen of Scituate, Grandson Seamus K. and granddaughters Morgan N. and Kendal E. McCluskey. His daughter Kathleen Kelly Callahan of Weymouth and her husband Robert (Rocko) Callahan and granddaughter Lilyanna M. Callahan. Also surviving step children, Robin (Jonathan) Hammond and their children Dale and Jake, Deborah (Keith) Rockefeller and their children Jessica and Amanda, Karen (Douglas) Rose and their children Shannon and Aidan. His twin brother Joseph L. McCluskey of Harwichport and his loving sister Katherine Ann McCluskey of Hingham as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife Elinor C. (Rogers) McCluskey, his sister Elizabeth J. (Jane) Woods of Scituate and Hingham, brothers William J. McCluskey Jr. of Yarmouth and Stuart, FL and John E. (Jack) McCluskey of Lynnwood, WA
Jim loved to laugh, play golf, travel and swim in his back yard pool while also enjoying the views of Quincy Bay. He had a great sense of humor and was an avid Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox Fan and season ticket holder for the Patriots. He was a founding member of the Weymouth Pop Warner Football Program and served as it’s Vice President for many years. He video taped Weymouth High School and Junior High School football games, Pop Warner football games and cheerleading competitions for their coaches. The family would also like to thank the Norwell Hospice staff, especially Judy and Cindy for their excellent care of Jim.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
