James L. Krish

Weymouth – James L. Krish, 82, of Weymouth, a retired Mechanical Engineer and Coast Guard Reserve Captain died November 9, 2021.

Born 6 April 1939 in Denver Colorado, he was the son of the Edward P. Krish and Mabel M. Krish of Newburgh, NY.  He lived in Texas, Pennsylvania and New York before settling in North Weymouth where he lived for over 60 years.

He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in Newburg, NY in 1957 and from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT in 1961.

He served for four years of active duty in the Coast Guard as an engineering officer on ships operating out of Boston and Portland, ME. After his active duty, he served 18 years in the active reserves in various positions including two commands, attained the rank of Captain and then transferred to the inactive reserves where he remained for 16 years until retiring in 1999, having accumulated 38 years of service.

He was a registered professional engineer and at various times belonged to the Society of Professional Engineers, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Reserve Officers’ Association and National Federation of Government Employees. He worked as a civilian with General Dynamics/ Quincy, the US Coast Guard in Boston and the US Navy in Boston.  His work with General Dynamics was as a nuclear components engineer and nuclear core load safety observer for the four nuclear submarines under construction at that time.  His work with the Coast Guard was writing a repair specifications for the ships in the First Coast Guard District and as engineering liaison for the Coast Guard’s only hydrofoil craft. His work for the Navy was as the piping project engineer on chilled water, steam heating, power piping, and fire fighting systems for the amphibious assault fleet and the battle ships NEW JERSEY and IOWA.  He designed the fire suppression system on the CONSTITUTION. He retired in 1994 after accumulating 35 years of civil service.

He played basketball and softball in his younger days and remained an avid sports fan. Later he became a certified amateur Softball Association umpire and umpired high school softball and youth baseball and softball. He enjoyed walking, swimming and working out at the Weymouth Club.

He took a particular pride in the academic and athletic accomplishments of his children and grandchildren while in school and their achievements afterwards.

He was the husband of the late Ann R. Krish and is survived by his sons, Jeffrey M. Krish of Pine Mountain Club, CA, John M. Krish of Mount Washington, KY and a daughter Sharon A. Almeder of North Weymouth, MA, a brother Lee E. Krish of Goshen, NY and four grand children.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday, November 12, 2021, 5-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 13, 2021. Burial in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset.
