James K. Keenan

James K. “Jimmy” Keenan, 81, of Weymouth, passed away on October 18, 2023 in the comfort of his home.

Jimmy was born in Dorchester, MA, on August 26, 1942 the son of the late John F. and Diana (Mc Carthy) Keenan.  He grew up in the St. Margaret’s Parish of Dorchester where he attended grade school and was a graduate of Cathedral High School Class of 1960 where he remained very active in the Cathedral High Alumni Association.  Jimmy was a long-time communicant of St. Jerome’s Parish in Weymouth.  He was employed for 28 years at the MBTA from which he retired in 1996.  Jimmy was an active member of the Irish Social Club in West Roxbury, and an active member of the MBTA Pensioner Club. His favorite pastime was attending his grandchildren’s various sporting events and spending time with his family at his residence in West Dennis.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anne (McGuire) Keenan in 2002; and his two brothers, Jack Keenan and Richard Keenan. Jimmy is survived by his three devoted children, Brian Keenan of Springfield, Dennis Keenan and his wife Erin of Hanover, MA, and Patricia Mattera and her husband Tom of Norwell, MA; his caring sister, Diana Qualter of Hanover; and six cherished grandchildren, Joseph, Sean, Thomas, Seamus, Ciara and Jack; his dear friend, Ellen “Helen” Costello of Quincy; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 2-5 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30  AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. 

Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
