James J. “Smitty” Smith

Smith, James “Smitty” of South Boston, died February 3, 2021 at the age of 95.  

James was born in Roxbury and grew up in Dorchester. He was a United States Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII.  James was a member of the South Boston VFW and a life member of Veterans of Foreign War. He enjoyed trips to the casino and visiting the local bars in the city he considered home, South Boston.   James will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. 

Loving father of Daniel C. Smith and his wife Susan of Weymouth, James J. Smith III of Quincy, Kathleen A. Smith of Manchester, NH and the late Thomas J. Smith.  Cherished grandfather of Lauren Smith, Julia Smith, Shawnee Nyad Smith and Great grandchildren Nicholas Silva and Angelina Smith. Caring brother of the late Mary Maclean.  Former husband of Phyllis Smith. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 9-10:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rt. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital), Weymouth. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to St. Joseph Manor, 215 Thatcher Street, Brockton MA 02302. 

Normally, the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although we cannot gather together with James’s family at this time, friends may still offer their support by sharing a special memory or message.
