James J. Butts

James J. Butts of Rockland, formerly of Quincy, died May 3, 2016. The beloved husband of the late Mary (Curran) Butts. Loving father of  Lt. Michael F. Butts, Ret. QFD and his wife Trisha of Swansboro, NC, James W. Butts of Port Norfolk, Marianne Hemphill and her husband Paul of Marshfield, Cpt. Joseph M. Butts, Ret. Manchester NH FD., and his wife Betty of Allenstown, NH, John L. Butts and his wife Cindy of Baldwinville and Eileen M. Adler and her husband Philip of South Natick and longtime family friend Marlene Faherty of Quincy. Brother of Elizabeth Mastandrea of Norwood and the late Charles Butts, Helen Walsh, John Butts, George “Donnie” Butts, Anne Marie Gagne and William Butts. Cherished Bumpy of Christopher Butts, Stacey Maloney, Lindsay Babino, Kristen Herget, Abigail Smith, Shaylyn Mckaig, Tara Butts, John and Mark Butts, Sgt. Jessica Butts, Army National Guard and Evan Adler. Jim is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was born in East Boston and raised in North Quincy before moving to Rockland 10 years ago.  He was a  graduate of North Quincy High School Class of 1945. He proudly served in the United States Army during W.W.II, serving in the European Theater. He was a member of the U.S. Army Infantry liberation team.  He worked for more than 35 years as a machinist at Boston Gear Works. After his retirement, he took a part time job at Copeland Liquors. Jim also enjoyed daily walks which could encompass ten miles or more  He and his late wife Mary enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States, Newfoundland and Ireland. They were extremely good dancers and were always the first couple to take to the dance floor. Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his strong work ethic and his devotion to his faith, to his country, and more importantly to his family. He will be sadly missed. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, North Quincy at 10 AM.

Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
