James J. Almeida

James J. Almeida of Weymouth and formerly of the West End died January 24, 2014 at the age of 93.

James was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1942 to 1964 as Petty Officer First Class. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1978. In retirement, he worked for Filene’s. James cherished spending time with his family, friends and Navy buddies. He had a passion for baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan. He and his son attended many games during the ‘67 impossible dream season. James also enjoyed reading and actively followed politics.

Cherished son of the late Candido and Olivia (Mia) Fortes Almeida. Beloved husband of Rita (Pinto) Almeida. Loving and devoted father of James J. Almeida, Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Brockton, Linda Brunelle and her husband Bruce of Plymouth, Deborah Messinger, and her fiance Christian Pellon of Norton, Eileen Almeida and her boyfriend Richard Flavin of Weymouth. Loving father-in-law of the late Stephen T. Zella. Brother of Florence Gonsalves, the late Marie Rogers, Mildred Erickson, Johnny Almeida and Sylvia Alves. Cherished grandfather “Boo” of Stephen and Jeffrey Zella, James and Michael Almeida, Nicholas, Julie and Laura Messinger. Great grandfather of Stephen Zella, Jr., Olivia, Ava, and Jacob Zella. James also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 AM in the funeral home. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in memory of James may be made to the West End House Boys and Girls Club, 105 Allston St., Allston, MA 02134.
