James E. Mullaney

James E. Mullaney of Quincy passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 in his home. 

Born on July 21, 1929, Jim was son of the late James E. Mullaney and Katherine (Carroll) Mullaney.  He grew up in Somerville where he excelled athletically and scholastically earning the Outstanding Scholar Athlete Award at Somerville High School in 1947.  Jim attended Tufts University and played basketball where he became the first 1,000 point scorer in the school’s history.  During the 1949-50 season he set a school season scoring record of 462 points helping Tufts to a 20-5 record while being named to the All New England team.  He co-captained the 1950-51 team.  Upon his graduation from Tufts in 1951, Jim was called into active service in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1951-1953 where he earned the rank of captain.  He entered the field of public accounting 1953 serving as partner in Segal, Greenfield, Mullaney, and Frank from 1968-1975.  Jim then opened his own CPA firm in Quincy and later joined with his son to form Mullaney and Mullaney in Quincy.  He served his many clients from his Quincy offices for forty years.  He was active in the business community as well as in the Greater Quincy Knights of Columbus and the Quincy Elks.  He was an usher and CCD teacher at St. Ann’s of Wollaston as well as a CYO basketball coach at St. Ann’s.  He was a member of the Somerville High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Tufts University Athletic Hall of Fame.      

Jim was the loving husband of 40 years to the late Evelyn T (Sears).  He was the loving father of Dorothy M. Mullaney of Enfield New Hampshire, James E. Mullaney III and his wife, Carolyn, of Quincy, and Robert S. Mullaney and his wife, Joanne, of North Attleboro.  He was “Pops” to his beloved grandchildren Jake, Danielle, Briana and Michael of Quincy, and Erin, Kara, and Chris of North Attleboro. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and their friends in Lakeville.  Jim was loving brother to the late Carol P Lynch, Jean E. Mullaney, Ann M. Whitney, and Joan M. Mullaney.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, January 12 from 4:00-8:00 at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street Wollaston.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:15 followed by  a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 13 at 11 AM at St. Ann’s Church,  757 Hancock St., Wollaston.

Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth, CHaD Community Relations Office 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756 or to St. Joseph’s Abbey, 167 North Spencer Road, Spencer, MA 01562.
