James E. Durant

James E. Durant of North Weymouth, died January 22, 2017. He was 89.

Jim was born and raised in Weymouth MA and attended Weymouth public schools. After high school graduation in 1945 Jim enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served proudly until 1949. After his discharge from the military Jim returned back to Weymouth and started a career at Pnuematic Scale in Quincy MA as a metal fabricator. He retired 45 years and 8 months later as a shop supervisor.

He and his wife Barbara were married on June 25, 1950 and set up residence just one mile from his childhood home in North Weymouth where they raised their six children. Jim was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Town Meeting Member and enjoyed being active in the Boy Scouts Troop 53. He was also an active parishioner of St. Jerome Parish. He loved dancing and traveling with his wife, camping with family and doing crafts. He will be dearly missed. 

Beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (Cooper) Durant. Devoted father of Gary Durant and his wife Susan of Carver, Glenn Durant and his late wife Susan of Hanson, Geoffrey Durant and his wife Debi of Plymouth, Lori Thomas and her husband Eric of Pembroke and the late Gregg Durant and Linda Malnati. Cherished Grampy of 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Loving brother of Rita Cameron of South Weymouth. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square).

Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.

Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Pat Roche Hospice House, NVNA and Hospice, 86 Turkey Hill Lane, Hingham, MA 02043.
