James C. Lindsay, age 94, of Weymouth passed peacefully into eternal life on November 22, 2021.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. Lindsay for 63 years. Devoted father of Dorothy L. Kelley and her husband Christopher of East Bridgewater, James C. Lindsay, Jr. of Weymouth, Thomas F. Lindsay of Weymouth, and Joseph A. Lindsay of Hingham. Proud “Pa” of Dr. Sean P. Kelley and Lindsay E. Kelley. Brother of Marion Karakozian of Quincy, Mary Heirty of Florida, the late Stephen “Sonny” Lindsay, the late Richard Lindsay, the late Catherine Heffernan, and the late Charles “Tiny” Lindsay. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Roxbury, James lived in Dorchester and South Boston before moving to Weymouth, where he resided for 68 years. James C. Lindsay served in the United States Navy during WWII and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan at the young age of 17. Upon discharge he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Medal with one star, and the American Area Medal. Upon his return home, he became a member of I.B.E.W. Local 103, and was employed by the James Sugden Company. For the remainder of his career, he worked as a cable splicer for the MBTA until his retirement in 1989.
Family was very important to James. Even as a teenager, James accepted the responsibility to help support his family and assist in raising his six younger siblings. He worked as a ship builder at the Charlestown Navy Yard by night and went to school by day. He was a quiet, principled, and humble man for whom loyalty and integrity to his family, friends, and co-workers were always held in the highest regard.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, December 2nd from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home at 809 Main Street, South Weymouth (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Friday, December 3rd prior to the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, South Weymouth at 11 AM. The family respectfully requests that guests wear masks during these services.
James will be laid to rest at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree immediately following his Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to Road to Responsibility, 1831 Ocean St., Marshfield, MA 02050 or The ARC of the South Shore, 20 Pond Park, Unit 113, Hingham, MA 02043.
