James A. Flett

James Allan Flett, Hingham, age 84 formerly of Milton and Canton, passed away on December 3rd after a long illness.

Beloved husband of 60 years to Dorothy (Johnson) Flett. Loving father of Janet F. Silva and her husband Thomas A. of Boxford, MA, J. William Flett and his wife Dawn-Marie of Yarmouthport, MA and John M. Flett and his wife Mary Kay of Roswell, GA. James was predeceased by his daughter Jane L. Flett. He also leaves five beloved grandchildren: Jeffrey T. Silva, Genny A. and Andrew J. Flett and Leah and James A. Flett, II. Brother of the late Luella Gahm and Eleanor Kingsland. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

James was raised in Milton and graduated from Thayer Academy and East Coast Aero Tech. He attended Northeastern University. His entire career was in the automotive and trucking industry as a Manufacturer’s Representative and was co-owner of Eastern Distributor’s Service, Inc. He was a Combat Veteran serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. in Korea. 

Jim was a man with many hobbies and interests. He loved to sail around the islands of Boston and Hingham Harbor in his dory. His most memorable adventure was sailing in the Marion-Bermuda Yacht Race in 1997. Jim mastered the art of woodcarving, making beautiful quarter boards. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed skiing, golfing and playing cribbage with his friends at the Hingham Senior Center. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.

Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM in House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Hingham.

Burial in Milton Cemetery, Milton.

Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061 or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022 in memory of Jim’s adored late daughter Jane L. Flett’s name.
