Wood, J. Matthew “Matt” of Braintree, originally from Dorchester, died December 2, 2015, with his loving family by his side.
For Matt, his family was the central focus of his life. He was the type of person that people naturally gravitated toward and he enjoyed their company. He cultivated lifelong relationships from his Wainwright Park days and Mission High School years. Matt was a longtime successful real estate broker, member of the the Braintree Finance Committee, Braintree Town Meeting Member, and member of the Knights of Columbus. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering for many of the Boston teams. He and his wife loved to travel and visited California, the Grand Canyon, Florida, and Canada. A truly patriotic man, he was a proud American to his core. Matt will be remembered as a loving, genuine, and compassionate person who was a great listener, mentor, and friend.
Beloved husband of 54 years to Carol J. (Zella) Wood of Braintree. Loving father of J. Matthew Wood, Jr. and his wife Lori of Hull, Mark J. Wood and his wife Yvette of TX, Michael J. Wood and his wife Judith of Weymouth, Jeffrey S. Wood and his companion Renee of Hanson, and Troy S. Wood and his wife Caly of Abington. Brother of George of Sandwich, Joseph of CT, James of HI, and the late Regina Flemming, Helena Drass, Connie Knebel, Charles B., Jr. and Philip. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree at 10:30 AM. Burial in Braintree Cemetery, Braintree.
In lieu of flowers,donations in memory of Matt may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
