Irene R. Kopp

Irene R. Kopp (nee Rudzinski) of South Weymouth, MA passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the age of 75.

Irene was born to Lillian (nee Tirrito) and Chester J. Rudzinski and grew up in Newark and Irvington, NJ. She attended Rutgers Newark College, where she was a member of Delta Phi Delta sorority. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated cum laude in 1968.

She met her dear husband Robert while living and working in Manhattan. They were married in 1974 at the United Nations Chapel. In 1978, they moved to Massachusetts so that each could further their education. Robert earned a doctorate in business administration at Harvard, and Irene earned a master’s degree in communication disorders at Emerson College. For 31 years, she worked as a speech and language pathologist for the Hingham Public Schools, treating children from preschool through high school. She especially enjoyed working with young children whose speech could not be understood, helping them to overcome that difficulty, all the while laughing and having fun.

She liked to travel with her husband and family and, on trips with her parents, was able to find and visit with long-lost relatives in Sicily and Poland.

Irene was a dearly loved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Robert and her sisters: Ann Botti and her husband Carl and Linda Tansey. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Christian Fenton, Bridget Tansey-Edwards, Owen Tansey and Grace Tansey. Irene was predeceased by her parents and her brother Joseph Rudzinski.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online to The Suzanne Wedel XOXOut Ovarian Cancer Fund, which seeks to identify symptoms of ovarian cancer in its early stages.
