Irene M. Holthaus

Holthaus, Irene M.(Kelley) of Hingham, February 11, 2002. Beloved wife of 55 years to Robert J. Holthaus, Sr. of Hingham. Mother of Philip G. Holthaus of Scituate , Donald L. Holthaus of Hingham and Robert J.Holthaus, Jr. of Marshfield. Sister of Margaret Faherty of Braintree and Thomas Kelley of Hingham. Grandmother of Amanda Young of Hull, Matthew Holthaus of Boston and Damian Holthaus of Scituate. Great Grandmother of Sarah Finn and Matthew Young. Mrs. Holthaus worked as a long distance telephone operator during WWII, she later worked as a secretary at the naval academy in Annapolis. She then worked from 1962 until 1985 as a telephone operator in Filenes. Irene was very active in the Neighborhood Garden Club of Hingham. She held the office of Past President, Past Vice President as well as Secretary. She was a member of the Hingham Women’s Club and Friends of Hingham Library. She loved to garden and flower arranging. She enjoyed traveling. She was a devoted wife,mother and grandmother to her family.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM Friday at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4 and 7- 9PM. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Donations in memory of Mrs. Holthaus may be made to Hingham Public Library, 66 Leavitt Street, Hingham, MA 02043.
