Irene F. (Dunphy) Mitchell of Hull, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 22, 2014.
The beloved wife of 64 years to William G. Mitchell of Hull. Loving mother of Peggy Rand of Hull, Betty Ann Doherty of Whitman, Kathy Mitchell and Jack Mitchell, both of Scituate and Marie Bradley of Hull. Irene is survived by her 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Daughter of the late Francis & Agnes (Cain) Dunphy. Sister of the late Paul Dunphy. Irene was a life long resident of Hull. She was a graduate of Hingham High School Class of 1945. Irene worked as a secretary for the Hull School Department at the Damon School for 15 years. After her retirement from the school department, she began working for the Department of Mental Health, where she continued working for 10 years. Irene ended her working career at the bookstore in Glastonbury Abbey after 10 years of service. She enjoyed reading, calligraphy and growing her famous flowers in her flower boxes. She was always up to the challenge of a crossword puzzle and she enjoyed knitting. Nothing gave her as much pleasure as sitting on her front porch with her beloved husband Bill, together they enjoyed looking at the beautiful flowers they took such great care of. Irene’s life was devoted to her family, they were all that was truly important to her. She will be remembered as a beautiful woman both inside and out, who had a great sense of humor. She will be sadly missed by all.
