Chaput, Irene F. (Donovan) of Weymouth, formerly of South Boston, died January 21, 2014.

Born and raised in South Boston, Irene moved to Weymouth in 1964. She was a graduate and valedictorian of Nazareth High School in South Boston, Class of 1947. She had worked for many years for the New England Telephone Company as well as working at Simmons College in Boston in the Continuing Education Department. In 1993 she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Sociology at the age of 65 from Simmons College and was a Dean’s List member. She was a member of the Blue Stocking Book Club with many of her close friends. For many years she enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing and could be seen roller skating through the campground in Myles Standish State Forest. 

Devoted mother of Joan Chaput of West Tisbury, Jean Chaput Welch of Weymouth, Jack Chaput of Weymouth, CJ Chaput of Canton, and the late Robert Chaput. Sister of Catherine McCole of Hingham, and the late Bartholomew Donovan, and Helen Toomey. Grandmother of Dylan, Casey, Derek, Heather, Nicole, Michael, Ryan, Jeffrey and Donovan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial visitation on Friday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.). A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday at 10:30 AM in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
