Imelda C. (Comer) Gemmel

Imelda C. (Comer) Gemmel, of Abington, formerly of Quincy, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 9, 2022.

Born in Boston, Imelda was proud of being from Dorchester, graduating from Cathederal High School, Class of 1953 and after graduating was involved in the reunion committee. Imelda raised her family in Roslindale, before moving to  Quincy where they lived for many years. She was an active and daily communicant at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy where she could be found attending daily mass, involved with both the Catholic Women’s Club as well as the Ladies Sodality.

Imelda worked for many years at the former Quincy City Hospital in the ICU Department as a secretary until her retirement. She met many friends at the hospital along the way and at that time  she became involved in the Mother/Daughter groups which she treasured all of their love and support throughout the years. Following retirement, Imelda was very busy volunteering for several local charities including Cradle to Crayon’s, and Friends of the Unborn and New England Village. Following retirement her and her husband Paul moved to Abington where she then became very active at Saint Bridget’s School serving lunch to the children as well at involvement at the church.

Imelda cherished her grandchildren and loved the role as ‘Nanny” always being their cheerleader on the sidelines and also could be found at any sporting event that was held. When she also found the time, she enjoyed to travel especially to Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, and California.

She will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved her.
