Ida R. “Edie” Casal (Ameno) of East Weymouth formerly of the North End of Boston, passed away on Friday March 15, 2013. She was 85 years of age.
Beloved wife of 61 years to Frank “Paco” Casal. Devoted mother of Frank E. Casal of Duxbury, Robert Casal of Weymouth, Karen Spitz of Atlanta, GA, Eileen Casal of Boise, Idaho and Maureen Ahl of Marshfield. Loving sister of Gennaro “Jerry” Ameno of Boston,the late Teresa Hutto, the late Pasquale “Pat” Ameno and the late Anthony Ameno. Also survived by 7 loving grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Born “Italia” R. Ameno in Montefalcione, Italy, Edie came to the US as an infant and was raised and primarily educated in the North End of Boston. She had lived in East Weymouth since 1961 and summered at Poponessett on Cape Cod for many years. Edie was a valedictorian graduate of Brandeis Vocational High School and in earlier years worked as a secretary at Fireman’s Fund in Post Office Sq., Hub Motors and most recently at Budget Insurance Plan in Boston. She was active in the Immaculate Conception Church parish as a greeter and was a member of the Catholic Club and the Weymouth Club. She also enjoyed league bowling. She was a very kind and gentle woman, with a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. Her loving memories will be cherished by the many lives she has touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main St. (Rte 18 opp. South Shore Hospital) on Sunday 2-6 PM. Family and friends will gather at the Funeral Home on Monday at 9 am to be followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church at 10 am and burial in Fairmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Parish, 1199 Commercial Street, Weymouth, MA 02189.
