Assaf, Ibrahim “Abe” of Boston, died November 4, 2017 peacefully in his sleep at home after a long battle with lung cancer.
Abe adored his family, especially his daughter Isabelle, who was the apple of his eye. They had many adventures together, picked her up from school, and he would often take her to visit his late mother’s grave and share stories about her. He loved to joke around with his brother Joseph and always made sure everyone was fed. He was an amazing chef and had special secret recipes. He enjoyed trips to Foxwoods with friends Tony and Ray and spent every New Years there. He also used to sing. Abe worked as a doorman at the Taj Boston Hotel, previously the Ritz-Carlton, and loved his job. He met so many interesting people throughout the years and was called the “Mayor of Newbury Street” for always knowing everyone. The people he worked with there were like a second family to him. There were pictures of him published in newspapers giving the local neighborhood dogs treats on their daily walks, which he always did. Abe was an outgoing, friendly, and generous man. He would treat his daughters friends whenever they were out together. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Loving father of Isabelle Assaf and her mother Martine Assaf of Quincy. Cherished brother of Joseph Assaf and his wife Gail of Florida and Olga Haddad and her husband Makram of Somerville. Adored Uncle Abe of Alexa and her husband Fadi, Razik, and great Uncle Abe of Ella, David, and Elissa. Survived by “Opa” and “Oma” Ad and Petra Wijkmans of the Netherlands and his cat Midnight.
Abe’s family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Lecia Sequist, Liz Krueger NP, and George Lillie RN at the MGH Cancer Center for their genuine care during this long fight.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral Service will be Tuesday in Our Lady of Annunciation Church, 7 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, at 11 AM. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.
