Hugh L. Opie, Jr.

Hugh L. Opie, Jr., a true gentleman, devoted husband and best friend passed from this world on Thursday, December 26, 2013.

He was born in Braintree on February 11, 1926 to Hugh L. Opie, Sr. and Lillian Opie. Hugh had a wonderful childhood growing up with loving parents and surrounded by great friends. After high school, Hugh served in the U.S. Air Force where he just missed being sent to the Pacific Theater. After the war, he married his first wife and high school sweetheart, Barbara with whom she had three fine sons; Hugh L. “Larry” Opie, III of Duxbury, William J. Opie and Wayne Opie both of Braintree. They, in turn, gave Hugh his seven grandchildren.

Hugh was an avid sports lover and sportsman. In his youth, he was an all-star high school basketball player. He was also an accomplished golfer and spent many happy days on the golf course with his friends. He was a devoted Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox fan. In later years, Hugh enjoyed being surrounded by the daily papers with his poodle, Gino by his side.

Hugh worked for Quincy Mutual Fire Insurance Co. for any years.

Hugh was predeceased by his sister Grace and is survived by his beloved wife and constant companion Carrie A. Stevens and his faithful and true best pal, Gino. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched.

The Keohane Funeral Home of Quincy assisted Hugh’s family with private services.
