Howard A.W. Mackay “Howie” Jr.

MacKay, Howard A.W., Jr. “Howie” of Quincy, died September 4, 2018.

Beloved husband of 51 years to Virginia “Ginny” MacKay (Grant) of Quincy.  Loving father of Stephen MacKay of Weymouth, David MacKay of Quincy and Gregory MacKay and his wife Diane of Raynham.  Devoted Grampa of Erin, Shannon, Colin and Emily.   Cherished brother of Carl MacKay of Lynn and the late Curtis MacKay and Ronald MacKay.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Howie graduated from Marblehead High School.  He was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era.  Howie worked at Shipley Chemical Company for over 30 years where he worked his way up to becoming a Chemist.  After his retirement, Howie gained a hobby of collecting memorabilia and antiques from local flea markets, which helped start his interest in stamp collecting.  Howie was an active member and Past Commander of the Robert I Nickerson Post in Quincy along with being a member of the Quincy Elks.  He was also active in Quincy Politics and the Boy Scouts of Quincy.  Howie’s main passion in life was his family and spending time with those he loved.  Howie will be remembered for his great sense of humor and ability to tell jokes.  He will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Howie may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
