Hiroko Gloria “Riko” (Uchida) Houlihan, of Quincy, formerly of Everett, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Tufts Medical Center, Boston. She was 88.

Riko was born in Yokohama, Japan on July 24, 1932. In 1954, at the age of 22, Riko immigrated to the United States and made Everett, Massachusetts her new home. She earned her GED at Everett High School and then continued her education and obtained her license in Cosmetology. Riko later became a cosmetology instructor and trained many new cosmeticians in the field.

In her spare time, Riko enjoyed walking, spending time with her grandchildren, going to Foxwoods and traveling to Japan, Europe and Las Vegas. She was a member of the Japanese Society of Boston-Quincy Chapter and was active within the community.

Family was the most important part of Riko’s life. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for the people in her life. Riko was known for always taking care of other people. She was happy, kind, energetic and fashionable. Her life lessons and example are part of her legacy that continue through her family. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.

Riko was the beloved wife of the late William F. Houlihan, who died in 2004. She was the devoted mother of Frank J. Moro and his wife Jean of Saugus and Guido B. Moro of Quincy. Riko was the loving grandmother of five and the loving great grandmother of three. She was the dear sister of two brothers in Japan and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday, April 15, 2021, 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.

Following cremation, a private graveside service will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

DUE TO FLORAL RESTRICTIONS AT THE CEMETERY: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Riko’s name to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 810 Vermont Ave., NW Washington DC 20420.
