Hilary Grace MacDonald, of Hingham, died peacefully at her Grandmother’s home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 1, 2020. She was 19.
She was the cherished daughter of Scott and Marianne, and best friend of her brother Luke of Hingham. Hilary was beloved to all who had the opportunity to know her, especially her family including her grandmother Florence Langridge (Gram) and the late Alan Langridge (Granddaddy) of West Hartford Connecticut, Pamela MacDonald (Grandma) and the late Allan MacDonald (Poppy) of Hingham. She was the dear niece of John and Amy Langridge, Geoff and Karen MacDonald and Gregg and Keri MacDonald. Hilary was the loving cousin of Megan, Matthew, Erin, Brian, Dillon and Nolan. Hilary is also survived by many loving extended family members, friends and her cocker spaniels Max and Lucky who brought her happiness during her illness. She also leaves behind 30 sweatshirts, 25 pairs of sneakers and a diverse hat collection which gave her a unique sense of joy.
Hilary graduated from Hingham High School with the Class of 2019. With her love of sunshine, palm trees and cacti, she attended Arizona State University to study engineering. Throughout her life Hilary pursued her passions and lived life to its fullest. She loved music and travel adventures and attended more concerts and music festivals with friends than the rest of her family combined. Favorite memories included sky diving in Kauai and hot air ballooning in Colorado with her mom, visiting Europe with Summit and Ms. B’s foods class, volunteering with her family at United Way, whitewater rafting in Costa Rica and zip-lining in Stowe with her Dad and driving down the coast of California. She had an amazing knack for finding the most unique community-focused businesses wherever she traveled such as Communal Coffee in San Diego.
Hilary had a beautiful soul and was proud of being an authentic individual. Even her socks were unique with no matching pairs. She was creative, intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate and loving. What gave her most enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, dogs and friends. One of her favorite places was at her Grandmother’s cottage in Plymouth, where she would spend time with her brother and cousins. She was a wonderful cook and baker and made custom theme birthday cakes for all her family members.
In her spare time, Hilary loved to drive around in her dream car, a white Jeep Wrangler, with her friends. Spending time with friends and her brother driving down the coast on a “Jeruz Cruz” and off-roading on the beach were special activities for her. Even while going through treatments she stopped to appreciate the beauty of the local coastline with coffee in hand from either Lucky Finn or MaryLou’s. She made the most of her brief time at ASU making wonderful new friends and taking road trips across the Southwest and California.
Hilary’s upbeat personality, loving demeanor and deep friendships are only part of her legacy that she leaves behind. She and her family feel blessed to have such a loving support system of family and friends who went above and beyond to make sure she knew she was loved. While her time was cut short, we believe that she had such a special impact on all that knew her, and she made each of us better. The ripple effect of her compassion and love will have a positive impact for eternity. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, August 16, 2020 from 3 through 5 PM at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham.
Hilary’s Funeral Service will be celebrated privately.
